Having recently graduated from Concordia University's jazz music program, Hogan, hailing from Vancouver island, wasted no time in releasing her first studio album. The first surprise is the impeccable production work done on all 10 tracks, care of Tyler Fitzmaurice. Shaun Ryan's bass and Evan Tighe's drums are perfectly in tune with the R&B, neo-soul and jazz stylings of the singer and her Wurlitzer. That being said, rather than aiming for a range across many octaves, Hogan would benefit most from where her voice can best express itself with all the subtleties she's capable of. All in all, this is an impressive debut. She's also working on a solo electronic & experimental hip-hop project under the name of Hua Li. The first mixtape is due out this fall.
